CO-LIVING SPACE

This space was designed with the intention of protecting students and professors from excess noise in the comfort of their individual rooms, all while culture and creative ideas are encouraged to be expressed in the designated common areas. In creating a sound-safe space, everyone can feel at ease with stress levels low as a result of specifically designed sound boundaries. Constant noise has been proven to be distraction and furthermore stress inducer which keeps productivity low.

When entering the space you are met with an open kitchen, lounge, and dining area, purposefully designed to cultivate curiosity and share ideas. As you walk through, following the curving of the walls, you will reach the back of the room which holds another common area but one for those wishing to be in a more productive space, while still amongst others. There is a closed off working space with desks, lounge chairs and a small library.  The walls along the exterior of the private rooms are protected with sound absorbing wood slat panels and secondary layer of acoustic felt. Everyone should feel as if they are free to speak at their own volume, enjoying the company of their neighbors. In the private rooms, one enters to meet the kitchenette and storage cabinets. Then following the path of the curved interior, passing the bathroom, through to the living area found below the lofted bed, and working space around the corner of the bathroom. Ample light is spread throughout every room during the day, while at night blinds are there for privacy as well as increased sound protection at any time from outside noise.
